My last post was a selection of photos from our trip to Vermont (our annual Autumn bike riding Vermont vacation) plus some photos from a ride in Toronto. That covers the first couple of weekends in October.
Well yesterday was another beautiful day and we happened to have made a plan with Andrea’s friend Liz to go for a hike on the Niagara Escarpment. The day was a mixture of sun and cloud, comfortable temperatures and lots of people on the trails. Liz knows the area well and picked a loop that would get us to some of the less popular parts of the trail as well as two of the spectacular waterfalls (Tew’s and Websters) that can be found in the area. Along the way we strolled through beds of fallen leaves, alongside quiet streams and across the top of the escarpment. And of course I brought a camera… the tool of choice yesterday was my Canon 5D Mark iii with a 40mm f2.8 lens. A compact package with just a little wide-angle action happening.
Here’s a small gallery featuring different parts of the loop with lots of autumn colours. These have all been processed using ON1 software with 3 filters applied:
- Dynamic Contrast (Natural balance)
- Colour Enhance (Fall)
- Vignette (Big Softy for most, Subtle for 1 or 2)
One of the images is also a composite HDR with 3 layers, let me know if you can tell which one 😉
And they are all exported at a high enough resolution that you could use them as desktop backgrounds.
And speaking of composite images, here’s a panoramic of Tew’s Falls from about 6 images. I’ve exported it at a higher resolution in case you’d like to zoom in for a closer look. It’s one of the highest falls in the area at 41 meters (135 feet). For context, the Horseshoe Falls (Niagara Falls) is 57 meters.
